Brooke Shields photo causing controversy in London
A London art museum is caught in the fire of massive outrage from child advocacy groups for featuring a photo of a nude Brooke Shields. The controversy is not due to the person in question – it’s because she was only ten years old at the time.
The photo was taken with the permission of Brooke’s mother, Teri, and shows Brooke from the knees up, completely naked, and covered in oil. She’s standing in an arched pose and wearing smoky eye makeup.
Advocacy groups are calling it a “magnet for pedophiles” and even Brooke tried to buy back the negatives several years ago. The judge who oversaw the proceedings in 1981 ruled Brooke as a victim of a contract.
The nude photo on display at the Tate Modern art museum is – somewhat strangely – a photo of the original photo and is now on display in a room that warns visitors of graphic content.
I think it’s quite disturbing that the museum is displaying what is essentially child pornography as art, but even worse is that her mother allowed it in the first place. Are that many women that desperate to bring their children to fame (and themselves to riches) that they would just allow their kids to do anything it takes? How demeaning.
