Pregnant pop star Beyonce has announced plans to design a baby-bump-friendly line of fashions for the super stylish mother-to-be.
Beyonce, who is expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z in February, says she’s expanding her fashion label House of Deréon – which she produces with her mother Tina Knowles – to include maternity wear.
“All I see now are clothes that are flattering on a pregnant woman. It’s been so exciting for me! I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant. Flowy fabrics are always flattering – but I still rock my stilettos.”
On Monday night, The Fashion Community and some of the biggest names in showbiz celebrated the work of late designer Alexander McQueen during the annual Costume Institute Gala at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
And as usual, Beyonce was the talk of the ball — although not for the reasons you might suspect.
House of Dereon: It’s no longer just the hub for denim for your derriere. The label founded by pop songstress Beyonce and her mom Tina Knowles has released a limited-edition line of temporary tattoos in cooperation with airbrush company Temptu.
Here are the deets: The tattoos — which will come in basic or deluxe packages –include Dereon’s signature fleur icon, rocker bolts and chains, jewel baubles and spider designs. The designs are waterproof and will last between two and four days. The basic kits retail for $16 and will be available at Sephora stores in the U.S. and Canada, as well as online via Sephora.com, http://temptu.com and Dereon.com. The deluxe edition, competitively priced at $34, is limited to 500 pieces and will be available for purchase only on Temptu.com and Dereon.com.
Hey Stylistas, Sasha Fierce herself, singing star Beyonce, made a surprise appearance on The TODAY Show this morning.
Tina Knowles shocked TODAY hosts Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb during a fashion show for her new Miss Tina Collection clothing line on Wednesday morning when one of the models displaying her designs was none other than her superstar daughter.
The designer mom said the surprise appearance was Beyonce’s idea.
Beyonce wants fans to get inked by House of Dereon. The singer and her mom Tina Knowles will add temporary tattoos to their Dereon sportswear collection.
Beyonce is under fire for allegedly lifting the design for a pair of studded leggings and using the pants in the fall collection for her new House of Dereon clothing line.
Helba Hallgrimsdottir of Icelandic designer E-Label says the singer and her clothing label copied the design for the leggings after purchasing a pair during a trip to Europe in 2009.
“This is naturally huge and I am still half in shock,” Hallgrimsdottir said in a statement. “I didn’t twig (sic) straight away that this was her own label: I just thought she was wearing our leggings. It is practically just copy/paste.”
This is not first time Beyonce has been accused of copying someone else’s idea. The multiplatinum-selling singer has been sued in the past over songwriting credits. Beyonce most recently settled a lawsuit in 2009 over the Destiny’s Child song “Cater 2 U.”
