Tennis superstar Venus Williams will be adding another accomplishment to her long list when she walks across the commencement stage on Thursday, December 13th, to receive her associate’s degree in Fashion Design from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Williams, who has been attending the college since the fall of 1999, has been dedicated to finishing her studies in the midst of Grand Slam, US Open, and Wimbledon wins to make her dream come true.
Said Williams of her new line, EleVen:
“I love fashion and the idea that I am using my design education to actually create clothing and footwear that reflects my personality and energy both on and off the court.”
Venus Williams’ EleVen Sportswear line, which was launched on Thursday at Steve & Barry’s, offers up 120 various pieces, all priced under $20.00 - including the “V-Court” sneakers Williams wore when playing in the U.S. Open.
On Thursday, Williams kicked off a 2-week, 16-city mall tour at the Steve & Barry’s in midtown, NYC. EleVen is the largest fashion collection ever created by a female athlete and includes graphic tees, jackets, jeans, sport socks, gym bags and visors in various colors.
Says Williams about her match-up with Steve & Barry’s:
“They were looking for a female athlete. I beat out the competition.”
