Hydroderm Cosmetics Sues Teri Hatcher
Cosmetics company Hydroderm is suing actress Teri Hatcher for $2.8 million for allegedly breaching her contract with the cosmetic giant. The suit was filed against Hatcher on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The court documents alledge that in 2005, Hatcher made an exclusive deal with Hydroderm which prevented her from using her her autograph, name, voice, image or likeness to market, promote, endorse or advertise skin care products which are made and marketed by all Hydroderm’s competitors.
Hydroderm is claiming that it learned last summer that the “Desperate Housewives” star was also promoting CityLips, a lip plumper made by City Cosmetics that is in direct competition with Hydroderm’s lip plumper, called Volumizing Lip Serum.
Hydroderm wants to recover the $2.4 million it paid Hatcher to be the face of the product, as well as an additional $406,952.00 the company says it laid out in additional expenses related to the deal. The lawsuit also alleges that Hatcher continued to promote other products, but doesn’t name them.
Dismissing the allegations as totally false and without merit, a representative for Hatcher issued a statement:
“Ms. Hatcher will respond swiftly and decisively by appropriate legal means to recover everything she is owed under her contract, as well as compensatory and punitive damages for Hydroderm’s outrageous accusations.”
