She’s been the victim of horrible snarky comments over her weight, but Jennifer Love Hewitt is learning to accept her body (which looks a bit airbrushed to me on this cover, I wish they’d just let her look like HERSELF for a change since she’s gorgeous) and shared some of her diet tips with Shape magazine.

Rather than using radical diets, Jennifer simply keeps healthy foods on hand at home – and not too much of it at a time.

“Instead of piling up food in my fridge that says, ‘Come eat me!’ I keep enough for only a couple of days. And I rarely have treats around that might tempt me late at night, which is when I usually crave something really fattening. What am I going to do? Drive out at 11 at night just to satisfy a craving? No, that’s crazy.”

She’s also been getting some inspiration from her boyfriend and co-star Jamie Kennedy, saying that “[h]e has a salad with every meal, plus lots of fruit, fish, and vegetables.” She also started running with him as a form of exercise. It started on a trip to Monte Carlo and they thought it was such a great way to see the city that they try to do it on all their trips.

Her final tip is to use positive affirmations to fight off the insecurities that she says still plague her from time to time. “[I]n the morning, before I leave the house, I say five things I love about myself, like, ‘You have really pretty eyes.’ That way I can go out into the world with that little bit of extra confidence. It’s a feel-good protein shake in my back pocket in case someone messes with me that day.”

I’m glad that Jennifer’s finding positive ways to feel good about herself instead of just starving herself like so many girls do!
