Shortly after the death of Yves Saint Laurent was announced, Naomi Campbell made a heartfelt official statement claiming she owed everything to the designer for kick starting her career. She said:

“I owe him everything. He was the one who campaigned to put me on the cover on French Vogue and I was the first woman of color to be on the cover — that was because of him. He was so supportive of me. Not just for me, for women of color everywhere”

Naomi Campbell was the first black model to ever appear on British Vogue’s cover. She is also set to replace Kate Moss as the face of Yves Saint Laurent’s brand in the Fall.
