Solange Knowles took to Twitter to address the “buzz” over her buzz cut hairstyle – and let us all know that she really doesn’t give a shit about what anyone thinks.

On Twitter, there are trending topics which are the most talked-about topics on Twitter at any given moment. Solange found her name had risen to the top three because everyone was talking about her hair. I’m assuming that most of the talk was negative because she wrote this from Twitter:

““i. was. simply. taking. my. son. to. school. i. have. done. this. twice. in. my. life. i. was 16. i was 18. did. not care about your opinion. then. dont. care. now.”

Wow. On the one hand I always admire someone who chooses a style that makes them happy without worrying about what others might say about it. But the tone is kind of snarky, no? Would it have been so hard for her to just say, “you may hate it but I love it and that’s all that matters” or something?

However, I do agree with what she said after, pointing out that writing about her hair instead of worrying about important topics bothered her. She added:

” “ONLY reason i responded to this i have is because i was disappointed to see my name more talked about then #iranelection.”

She finished off by stating that this is not something that she’s trying to make about style, but rather about her own preferences:

“dont. want. a. edge. up. or a perm. because. im not trying. to make this “a style” or a statement. i. just. wanted. to. be. free. from. the. bondage. that. black. women sometimes. put. on. themselves. with. hair.”

So there you go.

Frankly, I have to confess that I’m less bothered by someone else’s hair than I am about the fact that Solange apparently has to put a period in between every.damned.word.
