Even more than the Oscar fashion successes, we tend to all remember some of the most hideous Oscar fashions that hit the red carpet. With that in mind, here are the 5 worst Oscar fashions to date.

Geena Davis Worst Oscar fashions

5. Geena Davis. I don’t know what look Geena was going for with this dress. I can’t even call it a gown because from the front it looks like something you would expect to see on a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas who blows on your dice for that hard eight before selling you a $20 martini. Then the billowing train behind it ends up looking like an afterthought, as though she thought, “hey it’s the Oscars, I’d better add a bit of glamor to this!” Please don’t even get me started on the idea of wearing black stockings with a white dress. Geena, you’re a beautiful woman, you’re way too good for this awful dress.

Celine Dion Worst Oscar fashions

4. Celine Dion. Yes, Celine, there is truly nothing more cutting edge than wearing a suit backwards on the red carpet. It’s quirky! It’s unexpected! It’s fugly is what it is. Here’s a hint: If the suit is unattractive the right way, it’s not likely to look much better backwards.

Cher Worst Oscar fashions

3. Cher. I know Cher likes to shock people by wearing extremely revealing clothing that most women her age would never imagine wearing in public. The thing is, though, most women her age wouldn’t wear it because they know that it’s an ugly dress. If you’ve got the body, by all means show it off a bit, but at least pick something beautiful to flatter your form. Risque for the sake of risque doesn’t always work. And you know, if Cher really wants to be shocking she should try something completely different for her, like covering up a bit. Sometimes when all you do is try to shock, you end up actually becoming really mundane.

Bjork Worst Oscar fashions

2. Bjork. When you ask people about awful Oscar dresses, most people will remember Bjork and her crazy swan dress. If she was going for originality, she certainly succeeded and I do have to give her credit for that and for creating something that is totally memorable years after the fact. That said, it’s still utterly ridiculous. Save that shit for your concerts if you want to wear it; the Oscars are about glamor, not insanity.

Cher Worst Oscar fashions

1. Cher, take two. Congratulations to Cher for making my list not once, but twice. The swan dress was crazy but it just can’t compete with this atrocity that Cher decided, for reasons no normal human being could even guess, to wear to the Academy Awards. I can’t even discuss all the reasons that this “dress” is so awful. I think that Cher’s hair pretty much sums it up.

I can’t wait to see the great fashion on the red carpet this year at the 2009 Oscars, but I am equally looking forward to seeing who will be this year’s Worst Dress Oscar Attendee too. Who do you think it will be?
