Uh oh, American Apparel SUED by Woody Allen

So American Apparel goes and uses a photo of Woody Allen in one of their campaigns. Weird, but whatever. Except the company apparently neglected to seek permission to use the photo. Uh, whoops. The image in question was, they say, taken from his film Annie Hall and has him dressed as a rabbi. Woody Allen has successfully sued for $10 million.
I’ll bet someone lost their job for THAT one.

Well he hasn’t won the lawsuit he just filed it. And all in all it sounds like a pretty ridiculous case. I mean that billboard screams satire and satire is protected by the first amendment. He’s probably just in it for the publicity.

I agree, it doesn’t seem like it would hold much water, and especially because it’s from a movie, not him as himself, you know?
Do you think this will affect advertising like this? Will a ten million dollar suit scare people off?
